The Gili Cat service provides transport for customers all over Bali, they run from Padang Bai harbour (so great for people travelling from Ubud and north Bali) to Gili Trawangan and Lombok with two 16m Australian built fibreglass catamarans that seat up to 28 passengers. With the shortest sea crossing time of 1.5 hours. In high season they operate afternoon departures.

Fast Boat to Gilli & Balli Island

FAST BOATS 

The Gili islands just got closer with the increasingly popular fast boat services operating between Bali and Gili Trawangan and Lombok , here is some information regarding the schedules and routes and boat specifications.

Island Promotions Travel is only recommending boat operators that are fully licensed, have fully accredited captains and crew, that meet full international western safety standards, and that have passenger insurance.

The Blue Water Express service has a fleet of 3 fibreglass boats with a maximum capacity up to 30 passengers. They run a daily service from Benoa harbour avoiding the long road trip to Padang Bai direct to the beach on Gili Trawangan in only 2 hours. It is also the only option for island hopping transfers between Bali, the Gilis & Lombok via Lembongan.

Crime, safety and health

Crime, safety and health Generally there is very little crime on the Gili islands, however no where is 100% free of petty crime. As with any where in the world you travel its best to leave your valuables in your room, and ideally in your hotel safe. If you do have any problems on the island report them to the Head of the Island (Kepala Desa) at the Satgas office, located opposite the Harbour. There is a new 24 hours clinic at Hotel Vila Ombak on Gili Trawangan that has a doctor and nurse on call that can deal with minor injuries and problems, and can also dispense certain prescription drugs.

Families
Although originally discovered by backpackers in the mid eighties, and with a reputation as a party destination, the Gilis now boasts themselves as a great destination suitable for families of all ages. Various new hotels, luxury villas, and boutique bungalows now cater for children and offer good value, some have baby sitting services, and with lots of activities on the islands families are sure to enjoy their holidays to the full.
